When does lacrosse season start?
The primary spring season typically begins with preseason activities in late January or early February, followed by games and playoffs, which conclude around the first week of May.
Can my child play dual sports during lacrosse season?
At the youth level, many players balance lacrosse with other spring sports like track, tennis, or baseball. As players move into high school, the time commitment increases and team dedication becomes a higher priority. Communication with your coach is key - reach out if you have scheduling questions.

What positions are there in lacrosse?
Lacrosse has four positions: attack, midfield, defense, and goalie. Attackers focus on scoring and typically stay near the opponent's goal. Midfielders cover the full field and play both offense and defense. Defenders focus on protecting their own goal and stopping the opposing team from scoring. The goalie guards the net and directs the defense. Youth players are often encouraged to try multiple positions before specializing.
What sports pair well with lacrosse?
Lacrosse draws on skills from many popular youth sports. Soccer players bring field awareness and footwork, basketball players understand cutting and passing lanes, hockey players are comfortable with stick handling, and football players bring physicality and route running that translates naturally to the game. And if lacrosse is your child's first sport? The skills they build here carry over to almost anything they try next.
What are the basic rules of lacrosse?
The team that scores the most goals wins. Players use a stick with a mesh pocket to pass, catch, and carry the ball. Physical contact rules differ by gender: boys lacrosse allows body checking at certain age levels, while girls lacrosse is largely non-contact with strict rules around stick-to-stick contact. Games are divided into quarters, and a coin toss or draw determines starting possession.

Why is a USA Lacrosse membership required?
USA Lacrosse membership provides player insurance coverage, supports safety standards, and allows athletes to participate in sanctioned league and tournament play.
